Outtakes from our Photo Shoot

As you can tell by the new header, we had a little impromptu photo session yesterday evening. I couldn't pass up sharing some others.

Enjoy. (and remember: you can click on the pics to make them bigger.)

Garage Sale and a Business Lesson

We had a garage sale a week ago. My friend, Quotesy, and I decided to teach our children a little business lesson while we were at it.

All of our children come to us every now and then with money-making ideas. The problem with their ideas is that they always involve some sort of up front costs. And the problem with that is that our children are clueless about this and think that things just drop out of the sky.

So we, in our parenting wisdom, offered to let our children have a drink stand at said garage sale. They, of course, agreed immediately.

We then told them that they would have to purchase all needed items, including ice and posterboard, themselves. They, still, agreed immediately.

Each child ended up contributing a little over six dollars. Luckily, they made enough for each child to recoup six dollars. We were not at all worried about this. The lesson we wanted to teach wasn't how to make lots of money. We wanted our children to start to understand that it's not easy to make money. Many times we put in alot of effort and receive little in return.

And that's ok.

They also learned about buying something and selling it for a profit, advertising, working harder when things aren't going smoothly (they actually took the drinks door to door after the garage sale) and how hard Dad must work to provide for us.

We were pleased with their effort.

And their willingness to learn.

We had a White Christmas!

These were actually taken on Christmas Eve but thankfully the snow was still around on Christmas Day. Living in the south means that when you are actually lucky enough to get snow there is no guarantee that it will last long. However, it is four days past Christmas as I'm typing this, the snow is still around, and it is actually snowing right now!

There's really not much to narrate with these pics so I'm just gonna let them speak for themselves.

Enjoy!

Our Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve the kids get to open one present. It is always new pjs. Then after they were all ready for bed Bear decided to read everyone a story. He chose "God Gave Us Christmas". I couldn't help but snap some pics as the kids all climbed into and around the recliner together and listened.

Thank you, God, for giving us Christmas.

Some Practice Pics

*edited to add that I shoot with a Nikon D3000, 18-55mm lens.

I've been taking lots of pics with my new camera. I even got online and read up on some basic photography to try and understand things better. My favorite things to practice on?

My kiddos, of course. I did this one using the Aperture Priority setting on my camera. Basically, I'm doing a little on my own and the camera is doing a little for me. It's a step forward from taking pics in auto where the camera does is all. It's also in natural light with no flash. I haven't done any post editing so it still needs some tweaking and I still need some practice but I really like this one.

Taking pictures of subjects in motion is still a mystery for me so this pic I took on the 'sport' setting. The camera helps me out alot. And for some reason I love the shadows on the ground.

Honestly, I have no clue how I ended up getting this picture. But I love how Popeye is in focus, but the foreground and background are blurred. Fabulous.

And my precious green-eyed girl. She was resting her head on her daddy's shoulder. Love it.
